right vs flight

im flying back to LA soon and given the holiday season, i’m sure security at the airports are going to be even more crazy. I’ve been through the full-body scanner and I’ve also been through a pat-down, neither of which is a particularly pleasant experience.
I came across this project recently that makes clothes with metallic ink-printed messages that show up under the X-ray scanner.

But it reminded me of this project, which used messages cut into stainless steel plates that are concealed in the travel bag. When under the scanner, it turns into a communication tool aimed at airport security. stealth! a bit heavy for my carry-on though.

why the man still reigns supreme. miyake’s latest venture is the development of Reality Lab, a research and development team lead by him and textile and pattern engineers to find new ways to explore mathematics, code and clothes. the collection is titled 132 5. 1 refers to a single piece of fabric, 3 to a three-dimensional shape reduced to 2-dimensions, and 5 refers to the fifth dimension, which according to miyake, is the moment the garment is worn and comes to life “through the communication among people.”

Yesterday I spent an amazing day playing up in the Hudson Valley, visiting the Blue hill stone barnes cafe and Stormking Sculpture Park.
Although all of the sculptures were beautiful and augmented the landscape in their own ways, these were my favorites.

Sol LeWitt

Alexander Calder

Kenneth Snelson
The last one being a beautiful example of Buckminster Fuller’s tensegrity structures.
and Chef Dan Barber? Lets get married. I think it would be just great.

Trevor Paglen’s work is all about “seeing in the dark”. Photographs of satellite warfare over the intrepid Sonora pass or restricted chemical and biological proving grounds in Utah reminds us that the space around us is hardly empty or pristine, despite what it looks like to the naked eye. Landscape photographs hardly about the landscapes. I’m a believer.
