Completed with Adi Marom, the parasite’s organic shell was modeled in Maya and fabricated using a 3D printer while its skeletal structure is a series of laser-cut acrylic linkages that mechanically contract and expand using the leverage from a single high-powered servo motor. The proximity sensor adds interactive behavior to the creature so that it expands and relaxes when it thinks it is alone, but contracts quickly into it’s shell upon a visitor’s presence.
